Baked Beef Brisket

I tried making brisket for the first time recently and it was pretty easy.

For a 2 lb brisket I did the following:

1/3 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup beef broth
1 tsp flour

Sear the brisket in olive oil in a pan, just briefly on each side. You can add some beef broth at the end to deglaze the pan.

Place the brisket in a baking dish, coat it with the liquid mixture above. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover with foil and bake at 350 F 1 hour per pound. You can add potatoes, carrots, or onions to the pan if you like.

The result is a tender brisket that can be shredded, or sliced against the grain. There is lots of liquid that an be used to make a gravy.

I've heard that you can lower the temperature and cook it longer for an even more tender roast. Perhaps 275 to 325 for an hour or two longer. I have yet to try it.

Ok, I tried it. 250 F for 4 hours in a Dutch Oven made an incredibly tender brisket.
